Janssen coronavirus vaccine more effective with one dose: study

Janssen’s vaccine, funded by Johnson & Johnson, shows greater efficacy in a single dose, according to the company’s published safety and immunogenicity profile results.

The effectiveness results with a single dose exceed those that require two. In addition, they point out that the antigen can be stored for three months at temperatures from minus 2 to 8 degrees Celsius.

With this publication, the company is ready to apply for emergency applications in Mexico, where it is currently conducting clinical trials, as well as in other countries. However, these should be analyzed by agencies such as the Federal Commission for Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) or the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the United States.

According to the publication in the New England Journal of Medicine, neutralizing antibodies detected against wild-type viruses 90 percent of the participants on day 29 after the first dose of vaccine.

Neutralizing antibodies are proteins that are activated to protect the organism against invading viruses, which reached 100 percent protection by day 57, regardless of vaccine dose or age group. In addition, protection remained stable until at least day 71.

On day 14, CD4 T cell responses were detected in up to 83 percent of the participants, that is, white blood cells that fight infection and play an important role in the immune system.

The CD8 + T cell responses were generally robust. These are lymphocytes activated by cells infected by viruses and protected by the antigen.

Despite the wide response margin, the most common adverse reactions or secondary events were fatigue, headache, muscle pain and discomfort at the injection site; the most common is fever. Howeverthese effects were less common in those who received the low dose of the vaccinethan those who received two doses.

In terms of reactogenicity (common and “expected” side effects of the vaccine, especially excessive immune responses), it was lower after the second dose.

The multicentre, controlled, and placebo studies, sand were randomized in healthy adults between 18 and 55 years old; as well as those over the age of 65 or older to receive the so-called Ad26.COV2 vaccine.

The Johnson & Johnson Reagent can survive minus 20 degrees Celsius and lasts three months, as long as it is stored at temperatures between two and eight degrees; In addition, it does not require any thinning to apply.

The fact is, you don’t have to worry.
