Janet Jackson is back in control of the charts.
After an apology from Justin Timberlake for his role in her infamous Super Bowl “wardrobe malfunction”, Jackson’s 1986 album “Control” rose to the top of the charts last week.
As of Saturday night, it was the 8th most downloaded album on Apple iTunes in the last 24 hours.
Jackson, 54, thanked fans for loving it an emotional video Saturday.
‘I was home alone recently and I started to cry. I cried because I was so grateful for all that God has blessed me with, all that he has given me, and I am so grateful that he is in my life, ”she said.
‘I am so grateful that you are all in my life. You are so special to me and I want to thank you all for making ‘Control’ number one again. After 35 years, I would never think this would happen in a million years. I really appreciate you and I love you so much. Thank you.”
Timberlake, 40, apologized to Jackson and ex-girlfriend Britney Spears when he was hit with backlash last week after the New York Times documentary ‘Framing Britney Spears’, which sheds light on his approach to his break with the ‘Toxic’ singer.
“I understand that at these and many other times I fell short and took advantage of a system that favors misogyny and racism,” he wrote on Instagram. “I specifically want to apologize to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson, both separately, because I care about and respect these women and I know I have failed.”
Timberlake famously ripped the paste off Jackson’s chest during their 2004 halftime performance – a move that damaged her career but seemed to propel Timberlake’s.
