Jamal Murray, star point guard for the Denver Nuggets, suffers an anterior cruciate ligament tear in his left knee and is out indefinitely

Denver Nuggets security guard Jamal Murray was diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and will be out indefinitely, the team announced Tuesday.

Murray suffered what appeared to be a contactless injury during the Nuggets’ 116-107 loss to the Golden State Warriors on Monday night. He fell to the ground in great pain, grabbed his left knee and hit the ground with his hand after trying to outrun two Warriors defenders on their way to the basket with 50.6 seconds to go and the Nuggets 111- 104.

Nuggets coach Michael Malone came to Murray after the injury and immediately cried out for more medical attention.

Medical staff pulled out a wheelchair, but Murray refused and walked off court with the help of two staff, trying not to put any weight on his left leg.

Murray has been hit with injuries this season, but still averages 21.2 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.8 assists.

The Nuggets had won 17 of the 20 games before losing their last two games.

Murray had a spectacular postseason last year, averaging 26.5 points, 6.6 assists and 4.8 rebounds in 19 playoff games.

ESPN’s Nick Friedell and Ohm Youngmisuk contributed to this report.
