Jacksonville Jaguars RB James Robinson was ruled out, falling short of the unexplained rookie record

Jacksonville Jaguars harking back to James Robinson’s near-historic season is over.

Coach Doug Marrone said Robinson will not play in the season finale in Indianapolis due to an ankle injury, leaving the running back 35 yards shy of breaking the record for most rushing yards by an un-drafted rookie. Robinson, who also missed Week 16, ends 2020 with 1,070 yards, 34 behind Dominic Rhodes’ mark of 1,104 yards in 2001.

‘I had hope. Really, ”Marrone said,“ but it doesn’t look like he’ll be eligible for our game. I think it’s safe to say he’ll get out. ‘

Marrone also said he wasn’t sure if wide receiver DJ Chark (shin) will be able to play against the Colts (10-5), who are dealing with a match they have to win while trying to play the play- offs.

Robinson is third in the NFL and is behind Derrick Henry and Dalvin Cook, but Aaron Jones (1062) and David Montgomery (1,001) are close behind. Robinson is sixth in the NFL in scrimmage yards (1,414).

He is only the third rookie to rush 1,000 meters in Jaguars history, joining Fred Taylor (1,223 in 1998) and Leonard Fournette (1,040 in 2017).

“I can never say enough about that guy – I really can’t – about how hard he tries,” Marrone said of Robinson. He wants to come back. He wants to play. ‘

The Jaguars signed Robinson as an undeveloped free agent from the state of Illinois, and he was so impressive in training camp that Jacksonville retired Fournette just before the season started.
