It’s taken over 10 years, but Halo 3 is getting a brand new multiplayer map

343 Industries has announced that a new card is coming Halo 3 through Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and it will be the first new map since the 2009 Mythic II map pack.

In a blog post published on Halo Waypoint on Friday, developer 343 Industries announced that a new map is coming to the game from the canceled Halo Online project developed by Saber Interactive. This is probably the “new place” part of the “new place and way of playing” that teased 343 last week.

In case you don’t know, Halo Online was a free-to-play Halo multiplayer release that came into action in Russia only in 2015 and was built on a modified version of the Halo 3 engine. Halo fans have been curious about the game since its launch, and repeated attempts by enthusiasts to (unofficially) get the game online have been quickly derailed by Microsoft.

Eager to add more content to Halo: The Master Chief Collection, it looks like 343 is finally raiding the Halo archives, bringing some long-lost content to the active compilation game.

Some digging through the folks at Kotaku seems to suggest the incoming card will be ‘Waterfall’, a canceled Halo Online card that never actually launched in the short-lived F2P title. Curious.

You must be a member of the Halo: The Master Chief Collection beta flight program to get to know this new map as soon as possible. It looks like it could be added to the beta flight on Feb. 18.

As we’ve already reported, this update will also add support for FOV sliders on Xbox consoles next week.

This isn’t the end of the line for The Master Chief Collection either: 343 has asked fans if they wanted ray tracing support for the Xbox Series X and Series S edition of The Master Chief Collection.
