Cuban journalist José Raúl Gallego questioned actor and comedian Alejandro García Virulo for his song “You don’t get involved with Cuba,” which openly criticizes Donald Trump, but it also includes phrases addressed to the San Isidro movement (MSI).
Gallego asked the singer-songwriter if the snippet of the conga that says, “those who run errands (for Trump) hurry up because the party is over, and seeing the ‘baro’ is about to end, they’ve formed a title. It refers to those billeted in San Isidro and to the hundreds of artists and intellectuals who gathered before the Ministry of Culture demanding freedom of expression.
“Is that what you interpreted?” Was Virulo’s answer.
The young reporter replied that it would be very sad if someone were so talented to believe the version of the regime that the United States government and its president is trying to blame for all the ills Cubans suffer.
“It’s very sad (…) that his song is being used as the soundtrack to the next rejection of good people who don’t mess with ‘Cuba’, Virulo, but stand up to the government of Cuba (they are two things very much different) to ask questions that would make Cuba and Cubans better, ”he stressed.
Virulo replied that he believes Trump poses a real danger to Cuba and the world.
“That man is crazy. And I still can’t understand how many people don’t see it. We Cubans will solve Cuba’s problems without anyone interfering. That’s what I’m asking with my song. And I’m saying it very clearly”, he specified.
But Gallego turned back to the charge, claiming that the problem lies not in the criticism of Trump, but in the stanza reiterating the government’s speech that the people who have protested in Cuba in recent weeks are “ the ones running the errands. ” for Trump.
“With Cuba, we have to ‘involve’ all Cubans, but that government that paid for its conga calls us some former Cubans, mercenaries, traitors and takes what it thinks to remove anyone who disagrees from the debate. . That is why we Cubans (all) have not been able to solve Cubans’ problems for sixty years, ”he said.
And when they give the next act of rejection to a person who is not interfering with Cuba, but with the dictatorship, and the group of those being transported, then sing to him, with the sound of a horn that is on a state car posted: “Don’t compete, don’t goals,” I’ll pass the video to you and hope you’ll say your song wasn’t for those people, but for Trump, “he said.
They participated in the recording of the song ‘With Cuba you don’t getn’t involved’, besides Virulo, other artists such as Mayito Rivera, Israel Rojas, director of the duo Buena Fe; Ricardo Leyva, Ricardo Amaray and Moisés Valle, among others.
The music video of the song was filmed this week on the Paseo del Prado in Havana, and the Conga de los Hoyos and the Guaracheros de Regla also took part in it, along with art students.
