Players love showing off their coolest character and weapon skins in Apex Legends, and a clever concept shared on Reddit would take the game’s customization options one step further by including skins for each Legend’s unique gear.
A big part of any game is the ability for players to customize the appearance of their characters, and Apex Legends is no different. Since launch, Respawn has provided hundreds of weapon and Legend skins that players can use to express their sense of style in-game.
Respawn’s battle royale provides players with a nearly constant supply of new items to purchase for their favorite Legends. Between in-game event exclusives, regular store rotations, and new Battle Pass items added each season, there are plenty of options for players to choose from.
While there are many skins in the game already, some fans want Respawn to take their customization offering to the next level. In a post shared with Reddit, ‘u / DimSpartanJ13’ suggests that Respawn could add an entirely new category of skins for each Legend’s character-specific gear.

In their post, u / DimSpartanJ13 gave several examples of what they think Respawn could do to add additional customization options for players. Lifeline’s drone, Crypto’s drone, Revenant’s totem, Bangs’ smoker, [and] Caustic’s Gas trap ”, are all known for their potential to have unique skins.
U / DimSpartanJ13 also included several images representing some of the equipment items mentioned in the post. This should give players a sense of what they are seeing now, and allow them to imagine what some of the different skins might look like if applied to those devices.
The proposed system would be similar to what already exists in other titles, namely Overwatch. Blizzard Entertainment has a long history of providing dazzling skins to their players, and these usually apply to each hero’s unique gear as well (D.Va’s Tokki mech, for example).

While most of the responses to the post supported the idea, there were some questions about how a system like this could affect gameplay. Some players were concerned that problems could arise if different skins for Lifeline’s DOC drone could cause her teammates to miss it if they don’t pay close enough attention.
Other responses provided solutions to these problems. “There’s no reason Apex couldn’t have these capabilities [equipment] hides. Overwatch does it too, ”commented one user. Leaving the equipment’s skin visible only to the player using it (and his teammates) is an easy solution to avoid potential balance issues.
Respawn had not yet commented on the post at the time of writing. While this may seem like wishful thinking at this point, there are leaks suggesting that Respawn is already investigating additional rarities of weapon skins so that players can see such a system implemented at some point in the future.
