Israel is unlikely to achieve herd immunity to Covid-19, even if all adults are vaccinated, as there is currently no vaccine approved for children, Israel’s top public health official said Sunday.
“When we have 2.5 million children who cannot be vaccinated, we are unlikely to achieve herd immunity, even if the entire population that can be vaccinated is vaccinated,” said Sharon Alroy-Preis during a parliamentary committee meeting.
More than a third of the 9.3 million people living in Israel have at least one dose of the drug Pfizer Inc.-BioNTech SE vaccine, and about a fifth are fully vaccinated.
