Israel launches bombing raids on Syria

Negev, Israel

The Israeli army announced on Thursday that it had carried out bombing raids on Syria after the launch of a missile from this country, which landed in the Negev desert (south), near a secret Israeli nuclear installation.

“A surface-to-air missile identified as coming from Syria fell into the Negev. In retaliation … the Israeli army bombed the battery from which the missile was launched and other Syrian surface-to-air missile batteries, ”the Israeli army said in a brief report.

According to the official Syrian office Sana, the Israeli army launched missiles from the Golan Heights “at positions near Damascus”.

“Our anti-aircraft battery intercepted missiles and dropped most of them during this aggression that injured four soldiers and caused some material damage,” added the Syrian service, citing a local military source.

Earlier, the Israeli army had indicated that the sirens warning of possible attacks were activated near the Bedouin city of Abu Qrenat, a few kilometers from the Dimona factory.

Israel has never acknowledged having a nuclear arsenal, but foreign experts, relying particularly on the testimony of Mordejai Vanunu, a former Israeli nuclear technician, claim the Hebrew state has 100 to 300 nuclear warheads.

Since the war in Syria began in 2011, the Hebrew state has carried out hundreds of bombings on positions of the Syrian power and its allies, Iranian forces and Lebanese Hezbollah fighters.

Israel assures that it is trying to prevent its main enemy, Iran, from settling in Syria, a country bordering the Hebrew state. Despite the fact that the Israeli military has carried out hundreds of bombings in Syria, it has rarely acknowledged them publicly.

Most shots from Syria have been intercepted by the Israeli missile defense shield “Israeli Dome”.
