Israel has signed an agreement to purchase millions of doses of COVID-19 vaccine from Pfizer Inc (PFE.N) by 2022, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday.

The new vaccinations will be suitable for protecting people from different variants of the coronavirus, Netanyahu said in a statement.

He said he hopes to sign a similar deal to buy the Moderna Inc (MRNA.O) vaccine.

“This means that very soon we will have more than enough vaccines for both adults and children,” he said.

Late Monday, Israeli news website Walla reported that Israel had also signed a deal with Moderna, although officials were not immediately available to confirm the report.

With approximately 81% of citizens or residents over the age of 16 – the age group eligible for the Pfizer / BioNTech <22UAy.DE> vaccine in Israel – after receiving both doses, infections and hospital admissions have plummeted.
