Ironworker seriously injured after electrocution at the LIRR station

A female ironworker was seriously injured Saturday morning while working on a Long Island Rail Road project at the Mineola station, the MTA said.

The unidentified worker was part of a crew building a pedestrian bridge at the station when a crane hit a power line at around 9:30 AM. to the MTA.

She was rushed to hospital in critical condition, the agency said.

“We have initiated a full investigation into this incident and are reviewing all on-site security protocols and procedures. Awaiting the investigation, all work on the project has stopped, ”said Janno Lieber, President of MTA Construction & Development.

This was the second incident at the station since Monday, when a crew became trapped in a signal tower when an adjacent building was demolished and partially collapsed, according to a Newsday report that said no one was injured.

The construction is part of a project to add an additional track and make other improvements between Floral Park and Hicksville.
