Iowa officials are drafting the first plan for COVID-19 Phase 1B

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – The next phase of COVID-19 vaccinations will begin in Iowa in the coming weeks.

The Iowa Department of Public Health said Phase 1B will start no later than Feb. 1. The state says this will target people over the age of 75 and other high-risk populations. This also applies to people with a disability or in penal institutions. Employees of meat packers, a location where multiple outbreaks occurred during the pandemic, will also be involved in this phase.

IDPH says the state will need between 300 and 400,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines to complete Phase 1A. Iowa has received a total of 226,000 doses to date.

The state has not provided specific details on where people in Stage 1B will receive their vaccines.
