Intel probing reports of quarterly earnings hacking

(Reuters) – Intel Corp said Thursday that it was investigating reports that a chart in its quarterly earnings was subject to unauthorized access prior to publication.

“Once we became aware of these reports, we made the decision to release our profit announcement shortly before the originally scheduled release time,” the US computer chip maker said in a statement.

Earlier on Thursday, the Financial Times had quoted Intel’s chief financial officer as saying that financially sensitive information had been stolen from his corporate website by a hacker.

CFO George Davis said the leak was the result of an illicit action that, according to the report, did not cause an inadvertent disclosure by the company itself. (on.ft.com/2XZ1KOB)
