In Martha Stewart’s wellness routine

Martha Stewart has accomplished a lot in her career: she has written nearly 100 lifestyle books, has had multiple successful TV shows and became the first female self-made billionaire when her company, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, went public in 1999. That is to name a few.

And at 79, Stewart has no plans to slow down, even during the pandemic.

“I thank Heaven for the good fortune I’ve been able to keep working and keep the people around me working and productive,” Stewart told CNBC Make It.

On Tuesday, Stewart, a noted dog lover (she has two French bulldogs, Creme Brulee and Bete Noire, and two chow chows, Emperor Han and Empress Qin) announced the launch of her line of CBD pet products with Canopy Animal Health. (CBD is short for cannabidiol, one of the many cannabinoids found in cannabis and hemp plants. However, it does not contain THC, the psychoactive component in marijuana.) Stewart partnered with marijuana grower Canopy Growth in 2019 to develop hemp-derived CBD products (for people).

Stewart says she became curious about CBD after working with rapper Snoop Dogg (aka Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr.), a well-known cannabis user.

“I am not a user of it [marijuana]Stewart says. But she was interested in researching derivatives of the plant that are said to have health benefits, especially those that aid sleep. (Some studies have shown that CBD can be effective in relieving symptoms of anxiety, chronic pain, and help with insomnia. Other benefits are anecdotal.)

Here, Stewart talks to CNBC Make It about her health and wellness routine, where she gets her drive, how she copes with stress, and gets the Covid vaccine.

CNBC Make It: What Ways Do You Relieve Stress? Do you meditate?

Stewart: Do you think a hyper person like me can meditate? No, I’m not good at that, but I do like yoga. And it is not relaxation; I do Iyengar yoga, which involves a bit of relaxation. [Iyengar is a form of yoga that focuses on alignment and can involve holding poses for longer periods of time.]

What else are you consistent with when it comes to your health and wellness routine?

I drink green juice every morning. I have a vegetable greenhouse where I grow my spinach, celery and parsley. Even arugula goes into the green juice and other certain types of strong lettuce. And then I buy organic cucumbers. Pomegranate juice goes in there too. But that is my green juice and it is an essential part of my daily diet because it really helps in fighting aging. I don’t like the word “anti-aging” – I say aging successfully. And it also helps her a lot.

I [also] horse riding. I have been lucky to have had my horses throughout this period [pandemic]. Outdoor activities are very good. Sitting inside, I don’t think it’s a good thing.

How do you use CBD?

I am a sleepless and the CBD Martha Stewart oil drops are so helpful. A dropper full of orange [flavored oil] or a dropper full of the lemon … I love my CBD gummies too.

Where do you get your motivation from?

Definitely my curiosity. As with CBD, my curiosity, which was initially piqued by Snoop Dogg. I mean, I learned a lot about cannabis three seasons of our show, “Martha and Snoop Dog Potluck Dinner Party”. I am not a cannabis user, but then I became very interested in not only cannabis, but also hemp and its derivatives.

I’m really interested in supplements … what makes you live longer, what keeps your brain clear, and what keeps you active. Those are the things I’m looking for, not the secret to eternal youth – I don’t take injections. But I do my best to keep myself in the best possible shape for as long as possible.

What advice do you have for people looking to reinvent themselves?

Go for it. That’s what it’s all about. To attempt. Give it up, you give it up. It is always better to try, try and try.

I am constantly trying new things. My new line of [CBD] skincare is a new thing to me, but i’m so excited about it. It’s something I’ve been dreaming about for a long time. That will be released a little later this year.

I like to develop and build things. I am building a new house. But those are things that keep someone young, interested and relevant.

How do you feel after getting the Covid-19 vaccine?

The vaccine was great. I’m looking forward to my [second] shot next Monday.

But I’m sure I won’t drop my guard. We are very careful. There is no way you can drop your guard, you can still be a carrier, and you may still be able to get it.

But I feel a little more confident about my own health and I will also be very careful about the health of everyone.
