In a car accident, a 4-year-old girl is killed in Brighton and 3 others are injured

BRIGHTON, me. – Police are investigating a car accident on Friday that killed a 4-year-old girl in Livingston County.

Officials say that around 11 p.m. on Jan. 1, a 36-year-old man from Fayetteville, North Carolina, lost control of a vehicle while driving north on US-23, south of Highland Road. The 2006 Ford Expedition reportedly left the roadway and hit several trees.

Authorities say the man’s 33-year-old wife, 8-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter were passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Police say the 4-year-old girl was thrown from the vehicle in the crash and died on the spot.

The driver, his wife and 8-year-old son were taken from the vehicle by emergency workers and taken to hospital for their injuries. Their specific injuries and circumstances are unknown at this time.

Livingston County Sheriff’s Office officials believe speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash.

This investigation is ongoing.
