Washington- Veteran Vermont senator and former Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, or rather his huge gloves, have stolen social media fame from Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’s inauguration as President and Vice President of the United States.
A photo of 79-year-old Sanders sitting in a chair, as a guest at the Capitol, and huddled by the cold – it snowed for a few minutes in Washington DC yesterday – has been turned upside down on social networks by his oversized wool gloves. A reporter for the medium Buzzfeed explained in a series of tweets that those pieces of clothing that aroused the ire of internet users were a gift two years ago from Professor Jen Ellis, of Essex Junction, Vermont, to the senator, whom they sometimes appear in the past.
According to this journalist, the mittens, in brown and ocher shades, are made from recycled wool.
A photo of Sanders sitting in a chair, alone and with his arms folded, quickly caught attention online.
Users quickly let their imaginations run wild, placing the Sanders figure in different environments or even movie scenes.
Even official accounts, such as the New York subway system and Paris airports, joined the memes.
An image of Sanders as a lottery ticket seller even circulated on Puerto Rican networks.

Sanders responds
The veteran lawmaker responded to his meme in a televised interview with CBS.
“In Vermont, we know a little about the cold and aren’t too concerned about good fashion,” he said. “We want to stay warm.”
