Brandin Cooks has traded more than the credentials to a streaming service.
The former 2014 first-round receiver has played for the New Orleans Saints, New England Patriots, Los Angeles Rams, and Houston Texans since 2016. Teams paid a premium for his services, and he delivered. However, the 27-year-old is going to set foot on the ground.
“As for the team, they could trade me in for design capital, I would warn them to think twice because, frankly, I’m not going to accept any more transactions,” Cooks said. “If you want me out of your team, you just have to let me walk and choose my destination. I have a newborn son at home and he’s looking for someone who can lead by example, so I think I’m starting to see it firmly when it comes to my career. “
Cooks has caught 70 catches for 984 yards and four touchdowns. Unless he is completely eliminated against the Tennessee Titans in Week 17, he will earn the fifth 1,000-yard host campaign in his seven seasons in the NFL.
Quarterback Deshaun Watson is another elite signal caller that Cooks had the luxury to play with. However, Houston is missing their first and second round picks in the 2021 NFL Draft and could try to scrap the draft capital roster. Cooks fit the bill as there are no more guarantees on his contract.
“When it comes to playing and playing with Deshaun here, I would like to continue that growth, but it is not in my hands,” said Cooks. “Those are decisions I’m not making, and I hope the team sees the growth we’ve gone through and continue to show that commitment and growth over the years.”
The Texans’ off-season situation with a new coach and general manager coming in does not worry Cooks.
“For me, as a man who has been traded multiple times for first round picks and produced at a high level, I don’t think about that,” said Cooks. “I understand that we are in a unique situation. For me, Four is a special player and I would like to continue to grow with him. “
