Illinois star guard Ayo Dosunmu is out indefinitely after a facial injury, the school announced Thursday.
Dosunmu was injured during Tuesday’s loss to Michigan. He got dirty late in the game by Spartan’s freshman Mady Sissoko; Sissoko was sent off after being hit by a blatant 2 foul. Dosunmu did not leave the match, however.
Brad Underwood did not have a specific timeline for Dosunmu’s return, but said he would not play against Nebraska on Thursday night.
“Ayo likes to play,” Underwood said. “We are hopeful of his return to our line-up.”
Dosunmu is a Wooden Award candidate, averaging 21.0 points, 6.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists. The 6-foot-5 guard is number 35 in ESPN’s NBA draft rankings.
Illinois, No. 5 in this week’s AP poll, saw its seven-game winning streak against Michigan State on Tuesday. The Fighting Illini are 16-6 overall, 12-4 in the Big Ten.
