In the past 24 hours, laboratories reported 97,222 specimens for a total of 13,374,665.
As of Thursday night, there were 3,992 patients in Illinois who were in the hospital with COVID-19. Of these, 808 patients were in the ICU and 464 patients with COVID-19 on ventilator equipment.

Provisional seven-day statewide test positivity from Dec. 25 – 31. is 9.5%.
The positivity rate of the test is a measure that the state began providing in late October. It is calculated by using the total number of positive tests over the total number of tests. This is the measure used by state health officials to make mitigation decisions.

State-run COVID-19 test sites will be closed on Friday for the New Year holidays.
Indoor dining and bar service is still banned in Kane County, under the state’s COVID-19 restriction rules, but some people chose to ring in the New Year at a South Elgin pub. Stanley’s Restaurant and Ale House defied state orders, food, drink, karaoke and trivia – all indoors – while trying to enforce their own COVID-19 rules.
The owners said they have been open for business indoors for the past 10 weeks without any mention of the county or state.
