The test locations for the corona virus in Chicago are closed from Friday due to “bad weather”.

City-operated test sites will remain closed Friday through Wednesday, the city reports.

Thursday’s storm will be followed by a deep freeze that will stretch into next week. Temperatures should not exceed single digits, and chills can reach minus 30 degrees in what city officials called a “ polar thrust. ”

Anyone who needs to be tested in the next few days should contact their healthcare provider.

“In all fairness, from a safety perspective, we don’t want the staff and volunteers to be potentially exposed,” says Dr. Allison Arwady, CDPH. And walk-ups are available on the site. We don’t want people to come up. ‘

The frigid conditions also prompted The Loretto Hospital on the West Side to relocate its indoor walking tests.

“We are actually converting our ground floor physiotherapy room, which is quite large and very spacious, into a COVID testing room,” said Afya Khan, infection control physician at Loretto Hospital.

The city’s in-house vaccination sites will remain open, as will the mass vaccination site at the Lake County Fairgrounds in Grayslake. Officials there said the need to change staff regularly out of the cold could cause delays.

Professor Hani Mahmassani of Northwestern University, an expert in transportation and logistics, said vaccination clinics are likely to see some no-shows.

“There will be staffing issues,” she explained, “and also no shows in terms of the patients. And in some cases you don’t want patients to come out with this again, especially for some older people. vaccinated. “
