Illinois COVID Update Today: IL Reports 1,962 New Coronavirus Cases, 25 Dead

CHICAGO (WLS) – Illinois Department of Public Health officials reported new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 25 deaths on Saturday.

IDPH reported a total of 1,220,432 COVID-19 cases, including 21,059 deaths, since the start of the pandemic.

Thursday night, 1,179 patients in Illinois were reported in hospital with COVID-19. Of these, 228 were patients in the ICU and 103 patients with COVID-19 on ventilator.

In the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported testing 77,661 samples for a total of 9,558,920 since the start of the pandemic.

The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity from March 13-19 is 2.6%.

A total of 5,341,895 doses of vaccine have been delivered to suppliers in Illinois, including Chicago, with an additional 414,900 doses assigned to federal government partners for long-term care facilities, bringing the total number delivered in Illinois to 5,756,795. In Illinois, a total of 4,631,122 vaccines were administered as of Friday evening, including 360,941 for long-term care facilities. The seven-day rolling average of vaccines administered daily is 98,165 doses. 120,426 doses had been reported administered in Illinois on Friday.

Sixty-five percent of Illinois people over 65 have received at least one dose of vaccine, moving closer to the 70% target that Illinois could see entering bridging phase.

Double lung transplant with lungs from a donor who had previously had COVID performed in Northwestern

Northwestern Medicine surgeons performed a double lung transplant on a patient with lungs from a donor who previously had COVID-19, the health care provider said Friday.

The transplant recipient is an Illinois man in his 60s. He received lungs from a donor who had mild symptoms. The donor died of an unrelated accidental death and no longer had a COVID at the time.

The patient works in healthcare and was diagnosed with COVID-19 in May 2020 and suffered permanent lung damage.

Illinois COVID-19 Vaccine Guidelines do not include stage 1B cannabis smokers; those who smoke cigarettes included

Illinois residents who smoke marijuana are not eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine early.

This decision was made despite the fact that cannabis smokers have a higher risk of respiratory problems.

People who smoke or have smoked cigarettes are eligible for the earlier phase.

-Cook County: 1 woman 30 years, 1 man 50, 1 woman 60, 1 man 60, 1 woman 70, 2 men 70, 1 woman 80, 1 man 80, 1 woman 90, 1 man 90
-Douglas County: 1 90s female

-Franklin County: 1 female 90s
-Madison County: 2 1970s women, 1 1970s man
-McHenry County: 1 man out of 80
-McLean County: 1 female 90s
-Moultrie County: 1 woman 100+
-Ogle County: 1 man out of 80
-Sangamon County: 1 90’s female
St. Clair County: 1 male in 60’s, 1 female in 80’s
-Will County: 1 1970s woman, 1 1980s man
