Illinois COVID Update Today: Gov. JB Pritzker Announces Expansion in Phase 1B Vaccine Eligibility IL Reports 2,825 New Coronavirus Cases, 53 Dead

CHICAGO (WLS) – Health officials in Illinois reported 2,825 new COVID-19 cases and 53 deaths on Wednesday as Governor JB Pritzker announced the expansion of Phase 1B eligibility in Illinois. .

The total number of cases in Illinois now stands at 1,152,995, with a total of 19,739 deaths, since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Governor Pritzker announced Wednesday that Illinois is planning to make Phase 1B eligible on Feb. 25 for people with co-morbidities and underlying conditions as defined by the CDC. In addition, Illinois will also prioritize individuals with disabilities.

“Once we get enough vaccine, we don’t have to waste time protecting more of our most vulnerable population,” Pritzker said. Those who are younger than 65 living with co-morbid conditions, such as cancer survivors or those with heart disease, have an increased risk of serious complications or death if they contract COVID-19. Illinois is moving forward in line with CDC guidelines to expanding our eligible population as supply permits, bringing us closer to the point where the vaccine will be widely available to anyone who wants it. In the meantime, I encourage all Illinois residents to wear our masks and take the measures. so that more of our neighbors are healthy and alive when it’s their turn on the vaccination line. “

The governor said his office is working with local health departments on the expansion and areas that have already vaccinated most of their eligible Phase 1B residents can expand access by Feb. 25.

The risk categories covered by the extension are:

-Cancer
-Chronic kidney disease
COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
-Diabetes
-Heart disease
Immunocompromised condition due to solid organ transplant
-Obesity

-Pregnancy
-Lung disease
-Sickle cell disease

In the last 24 hours, laboratories reported 82,885 specimens for a total of 16,822,385.

As of Tuesday night, 2,082 patients in Illinois were reported hospitalized with COVID-19. Of these, 464 patients were in the ICU and 232 patients received COVID-19 breathing equipment.

The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity as of Feb. 9 is 4.0%.

A total of 1,724,325 doses of vaccine have been delivered to healthcare providers in Illinois, including Chicago, with an additional 428,100 doses assigned to federal government partners for long-term care facilities, bringing the total number delivered in Illinois to 2,152,425.

IDPH reports that a total of 1,480,079 vaccine doses have been administered, including 223,790 in long-term facilities. The seven-day rolling average of vaccines administered is 55,135.

The IDPH says vaccine distribution numbers are reported in real time, and vaccine delivery lags by as much as 72 hours.

– DuPage County: 1 female 1970s. 2 males 1970s
– Franklin County: 1 female 1970s
– Grundy County: 1 man out of 80
– Hamilton County: 1 80’s female
Jefferson County: 1 man from the 1970s
– Kane County: 1 man in the 60’s, 1 man in the 70’s
