IKEA’s Tiny House is pre-built

Imagine the instructions.

IKEA is now busy making tiny houses. And luckily for triggered millennial furniture owners everywhere, you don’t need that disposable hex wrench. It has already been built.

The Swedish furniture company is experimenting with prefab houses through their Ikea Tiny Home project, selling 187-square-foot homes on low-loaders.

The Tiny House venture is a partnership with Vox Creative and RV builder Escape.

Currently, the only model available is the IKEA version of Escape’s Boho XL Wide model, which starts at $ 47,550. That’s about 368 POÄNG seats, for everyone who counts.

Features in the IKEA version – which has an eye for neutral tones, durability and that certain hygge touch – include kitchen cabinets made from recycled plastic bottles, built-in furniture and a folding desk, according to Lonely Planet. According to Escape’s promotional video, the XL offers space for a queen-size bed, as well as living, kitchen and bathroom areas.

A virtual tour shows the window-lined space furnished with IKEA cabinets and products.

“How I started was listing all the needs for the space,” said Abbey Stark, senior interior design leader, in a promotional video. Like, how do you design around a wheel arch and the mechanics of the house? I wanted to buy renewable, reusable, and recycled materials whenever possible to make the space both functional and beautiful. “

Tiny houses are all the rage among environmentally conscious minimalist types and have even managed to stay fashionable during the pandemic, when the last thing anyone wants is a smaller space.

But with perks like the trailer bed, compostable toilet, and solar panels, IKEA’s tiny house has the appeal many sought after during the pandemic.
