iPhones that are not running at least iOS 9 and Android phones that do not have a software version newer than Android 4.0.3 will not run WhatsApp or provide the full WhatsApp experience early next year. To avoid losing access to WhatsApp, make sure to upgrade to the latest available software version that your iPhone or Android supports. If you’re not sure which operating system you have installed on your old device, go to the Settings app on iPhone or Android and look for software information. Go to Settings > General > Software update on iPhone, or Settings > About phone on Android to find out if a new version of the operating system is available.
If that is not possible, the only solution is to get a new phone. You can transfer all your WhatsApp chats to the new device so you don’t have to worry about losing data while upgrading.
