iCloud Passwords Chrome Windows extension now available

In addition to iTunes, Apple’s largest offering on Microsoft’s operating system is the iCloud sync client for files, photos, and email. Apple is now expanding its presence on Windows with an iCloud Passwords Chrome extension.

Apple quietly published the extension in the Chrome Web Store on Sunday evening:

With iCloud passwords, you can use the same strong Safari passwords you create on your Apple device, with Chrome on Windows.

After updating iCloud for Windows to version 12.0 – which plagued the extension’s existence earlier this week, you will see a new ‘Passwords’ section in the list of available services. Tapping “Apply” at the bottom to proceed will open a dialog box to download the tool in Chrome.

It provides access to the passwords you have created, automatically generated, or saved in Safari for iOS and macOS while using Chrome. The sync is bi-directional with new credentials that you save in Google’s browser, stored in the iCloud Keychain, so it can be accessed on iPhone, iPad and Mac devices.

The extension prompts users to “Choose a saved password to use” when they log in. The website and email address are shown below.

This Chrome iCloud password tool joins Apple’s only other extension for older Windows (7 + 8) PCs: iCloud Bookmarks. Apple now also offers Apple TV + for the Xbox. Our colleagues at 9to5Mac reported this year that apps for music and podcasts may also come to the Microsoft Store.
