“It’s been eight months since I left home for this and I never thought it would take so long,” he said Toño Mauri left the hospital after battling complications from the COVID-19 caused on his body.

Recognized for participation in soap operas such as “The malquerida”, Mauri tested positive coronavirus in June 2020 along with other members of his family. His condition worsened until he was hospitalized and as a result of his condition, he was subjected to a drug treatment double lung transplant mid-December.

In an interview with the health center of the University of Florida (University of Florida Health) Mauri told the journey from his infection to leaving the hospital last Friday.

“I arrived here after 6 months in the hospital in Miami … I was in a coma for three months, everything happened to me, what they told me could happen, happened, they told my family that I already … There was nothing I had to do and the next day I would recover and the doctors were surprised, ”he said in a broken voice.

“So I went step by step until the moment came when my lungs stopped working and from the hospital and a group of advisers came up that this place was there and that I could come and try and that was my arrival here. It was the last chance I had, I met Dr. Pelaez, Machuca and the team of both, they always took good care of me with great affection, they were also always very sincere with me and together we went through this transplant ”.

Mauri was also grateful for the person who made his transplant possible; Although he pointed out that they do not know the donor, this experience leads him to see the importance of organ donation.

“I want people to know that it is an option that is valid today, I am very grateful to the donor because this person who donated his lungs to me, also donated his liver and kidneys, gave life to other people and that creates awareness of donating, that it is the opportunity for us to save those lives, I am very grateful to him, I don’t know who he is, but he is definitely an angel. ”

In the audio shared by the university, Mauri says that the first thing he wanted to do when he got home is to hug his kids and move on. In addition, as a Covid-19 survivor, he has a belief to share the message of concern because the pandemic.

“I want to make it clear to people that they have to take care of themselves, that this is not a game, this is real and it ends everything, that they take care of their family, because the ones who suffer the most are the family and suffer a lot. so you have to think of everyone and we have to take care of ourselves and we have to follow the instructions they give us, use the mask, make sure you don’t go to many people’s places, everything they ask us is very very important because I didn’t go out to take care of myself and then it gave me. We must also show interest and obey to take care of ourselves to provide for our family ”.

The soap actor like “Passion” and “The Privilege of Love” He pointed out that God motivated him to keep fighting during these months, and that this was not just his strength. Mauri said that he felt his presence very close.

“I asked him if it was his decision that I would accept it, but that I wanted to see my children grow up and I wanted to live and to me God was my strength and I felt it. I asked him to take me by the hand and I felt him take me and accompany me and the greatest thing that has happened to me is to feel God ”.

Toño Mauri wants to help others by sharing his message and hoping that the public will see him as an example and not go through what he has experienced, in that sense he shares a piece of his healing process that will take some time.

“Sure, this changes your life completely, now I see everything differently, I see everything differently, I still don’t walk and I have to start all over again to walk, eat, go to the bathroom, but I see that little bit bit it can and is that i first have a commitment to myself that if i look good i will be okay and i will do it to help that is the most important thing is my life plan from now on.
