DENVER – Interstate 70 was shut off Saturday night in both directions from the Denver to Silverthorne metro area and later closed in eastern Colorado as road conditions worsened from snow buildup, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The highway was closed from C-470, near Morrison, to Silverthorne. Due to the closure, all traffic was diverted to the C-470. The highway was later closed from Limon to Burlington, in eastern Colorado, due to snow storms.
Road conditions deteriorated throughout the metro area, particularly on the west side in Jefferson County and down to the foothills. Heavy snow fell and it was expected to fall all night long.
While not much snow had accumulated earlier Saturday, colder temperatures after sunset caused more and more snow to cling to the roads.
I-70 was just one of many major closures in the Front Range.
US 6 was shut down via Clear Creek Canyon, and Interstate 25 was closed between Wellington and the Wyoming border. In Wyoming, Interstate 80 was closed from Cheyenne to Rock Springs.
