Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti’s Palm Springs was perhaps our favorite new film of 2020. That may be partly because there was not much competition in that area, but also because it geek animal, cuter and somehow less cynical Groundhog Day story, a story that was a joy to escape into while trapped in our own time loop. So we’re excited because Hulu just released a commentary track for the movie, not just as an excuse to enjoy the movie again, but because it’s a big step toward streaming titles that finally get DVD-style extras.

By the way, this is very deliberate. Variety announced the news, along with this insight from Samberg: “As far as I know we are the first. We realized that Palm Springs will always be on Hulu, which is great, but there are elements of the DVD experience that just don’t exist anymore. They were really good at talking about ways to get fun stuff into it. “

Hulu isn’t the only streaming service to start dipping its toes in DVD extra-esque waters. Disney + has that behind-the-scenes documentary series of The Mandalorian, and some services add trailers to their titles, although that’s more tempting than archiving. But if Netflix and Amazon Prime want to start giving people more good stuff for select shows and movies, I’m pretty sure everyone would be on board. Like, who wouldn’t want to watch a blooper reel after season 3 of The right place without having to go to YouTube?

But for now you can enjoy the Palm Springs commentary track with Samberg, Milioti and director Max Barbakow and screenwriter Andy Siara. Hulu even made a trailer for it:

Presumably, the entire commentary track isn’t just people saying pleasant but banal things about the movie, but you can find out for yourself – it’s available on Hulu right now.
