Huge Fallout: The Frontier mod launches today

Fallout: The Frontier is a massive expansion mod for Fallout: New Vegas that has been in the works for years. It adds an all-new map zone and storyline to New Vegas, set in the wasteland of snowy Portland, where three new factions are at war. The big project is launching today and it sure sounds like people are excited to play it.

“The Frontier is an open world, comparable in size to the wasteland in DC, with a completely snowy Portland Oregon, with real landmarks and locations,” said its creators. They say the modified expansion takes place during the same time period as Fallout: New Vegas itself, so you take your trusty carrier north to investigate a new conflict.

In the wastelands of Oregon, you’ll find a group of exiled NCR troops fighting a northern Legion faction and a number of surviving Brotherhood of Steel refugees. You can check out the new release trailer above, where the three faction leaders explain why they fight all over the snow.

You can find additional details on The Frontier’s website and it sounds pretty impressive. Its creators say there are three main quest lines and quite a few side quests as well, and it will also add boss fights, new enemies, new creatures and additional energy weapons. Plus, the whole thing includes voice acting, which is always an accomplishment for a massive modding project.

You can download Fallout: The Frontier on Nexus Mods or on Steam. Be patient with that Nexus link, though. Nexus has warned players through their Discord server that “regular Friday night traffic and the huge interest in Fallout: The Frontier combined are really hammering our servers”.

Enjoy the north coast, couriers. Just don’t run in all at once.
