HP has announced that the gaming peripherals company is acquiring HyperX for $ 425 million. The purchase gives HP an important position in the gaming accessories market.
This transaction will result in HP purchasing the HyperX brand from Kingston, the current owner, but HP notes in the announcement post that “Kingston will retain DRAM, flash and SSD products for gamers and enthusiasts.”
HP has made strides in recent years to enter the gaming peripheral space under the Omen brand, but it hasn’t gained much traction compared to competitors such as Corsair, Logitech, and Razer.
HP said The edge that the Ngenuity companion app used for some HyperX accessories will persist and will not be rolled in the Omen Control Center software currently in use.
HyperX is one of the most notable brands in this market, with gaming accessories including the line of Cloud headsets, which are among the best-selling gaming headsets right now. Aside from gaming headsets, HyperX’s portfolio includes a variety of gaming accessories from gaming keyboards to microphones. Most recently, HyperX announced its first 60 percent mechanical gaming keyboard.
