With theaters remaining closed or operating at limited capacity, the ongoing pandemic of Warner Bros. forced to rethink their movie-releasing strategies. Disney has already done it dropped his one-time tent pole Mulan to Disney + for an additional cost of $ 30, but on Christmas Day, Warner Bros. it even better, Giving HBO Max subscribers free access to blockbuster sequel Wonder Woman 1984 for 31 days.
The move is a precursor to the studio’s announced plans similarly releasing its entire 2021 movie slate, which means if you’re not already a subscriber, it’s time to figure out the puzzle that is HBO Max. But if assuming another monthly cost for streaming services isn’t in the map, here’s how on December 25th you can enjoy the superhero movie for free (or at a lower cost with an ongoing HBO Max subscription) (or at a lower cost).
Download a free trial of HBO Max from Hulu or YouTube TV
The free trial for HBO Max is a thing of the past – usually. Just in time for the launch of Wonder Woman 1984 and other upcoming blockbusters, HBO is not offering a free trial to new customers. Fortunately, you can still test HBO Max for free for seven days if you bundle it with another streaming service.
Hulu is working with HBO Max on offer a week for free when you sign up for both streaming services or add HBO Max to your existing Hulu subscription. After the first week, the normal HBO Max price of $ 14.99 per month will apply. If you sign up now, you can watch the new Wonder Woman movie for free on Christmas Day and then cancel without paying a cent. (Heck, if you’re a new Hulu customer, you can sign up for a one-month free trial of Hulu and a 7-day free trial of HBO Max at the same time, and cancel both before they expire.)
Likewise, if you are a YouTube TV subscriber ($ 64.99 / month with a 5-day free trial), you can also sign up for a 7-day trial of HBO Max. Going this route will give you access to a much wider range of shows available on YouTube TV, but be aware that the monthly cost for that service is quite high.
Use your HBO cable plan
If you’re already an HBO customer, HBO Max has made it less than easy to check out its new streaming platform. At launch, the confusion surrounding their existing services (either through a cable provider, or the former HBO Now and HBO Go apps) made it difficult to determine whether you already had access or not. The good news is that if you subscribe to HBO through your cable or satellite provider, you probably already have access to HBO Max. Go to HBOmax.com, click on ‘Log in’ and choose ‘Log in via TV or mobile provider’. Once you’ve linked your TV provider, you’re all set to watch Wonder Woman 1984 without extra costs.

Find a friend
You can have up to five profiles on your HBO Max account, which means you are free to share your HBO Max access with four others. If you don’t have HBO Max access yourself, call a friend and see if they create a profile for you on their account. (If they say yes, you should also offer to share the cost with them. It won’t be free at that point, but at least you’ll be a good friend.)
Buy six months of HBO Max at a discount
HBO Max’s current price promotion doesn’t give you free entry, but it will save you some money in the long run. HBO offers six months of streaming service for $ 69.99 in advance. At the normal price of $ 14.99, six months would be about $ 89.94. Taxes and fees apply and the offer is only available until January 15, 2021. But once paid, you have 31 days to enjoy Wonder Woman 1984– and six months to watch all other new movies and the usual HBO content.
Rent a cinema with your bubble
As a concession to theaters, Warner Bros allows viewers to watch their movies on streaming and debut them on the big screen at the same time. That means cinemas will still play the movie (provided they are open at all) and, due to the pandemic, rent an entire theater can only cost a little more than a pre-pandemic ticket if you can get a few members of your quarantine bubble to get caught up in the cost. Cinemas rent out their cinemas to individuals for only $ 100. Bring your bubble buddies and your screening will cost about $ 20 each (or less).
Going to the theater is still a risky business. If you do, take the appropriate precautions to reduce your risk of transmission and spread:
- Don’t go with someone outside of your household or familiar quarantine bubble.
- Stay masked at all times and keep your distance socially within the theater.
- Wash your hands regularly and bring plenty of hand sanitizer.
