How to watch Tuesday’s Apple event

Your spring calendar probably looks pretty busy already. Your vaccination appointments are coming up; the family plans a visit; and you might go on a real personal date somewhere in there, your first in a long time. (Lucky you.)

Make room on that bursting calendar to write another event as Apple is holding a media presentation tomorrow, April 20. The event is live-streamed and you can watch from home as the company shows off new elegantly beveled hardware.

It’s always hard to speculate what a secretive company like Apple might be planning as these events approach, but we can create reasonable expectations of what we’ll see at tomorrow’s event based on some leaked information and some research reporting at other outlets . Most signs point to new iPads, especially new iPad Pro models and a refresh of the recently reanimated iPad Mini. According to Bloomberg, the larger of the new iPad Pros will have a brighter, more technically advanced display and both Pro models will have faster chips and a Thunderbolt port for connecting a wider range of accessories. Other reports indicate that Tuesday we can see a new Apple Pencil, as well as the arrival of AirTags, the small location reporting widgets that work with Apple’s Find My app.

We’re pretty sure we won’t be seeing a new iPhone, new AirPods, or macOS or iOS samples. The iPhone hardware is traditionally released in the fall, and the software walk-throughs are the culmination of Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference, which is already scheduled for June.

How to watch

Apple’s presentation starts at 1:00 pm East, 10:00 am Pacific, On Tuesday, April 20You can stream it here in the player on this page. You can also watch the stream on Apple’s website, in the Apple TV app, or on the company’s YouTube channel.

That Apple TV option is new since last year – now that Apple has its own streaming service, it also has a dedicated video app on mobile devices, Apple TV boxes, Roku boxes, and in some smart TVs. You can open that app and find the option to stream Tuesday’s event whether or not you subscribe to the monthly Apple TV + streaming service.

We recommend that you start the stream on your television with your YouTube app or the Apple TV app. The company’s well-produced display cases contain many impressive images that look good on the larger format. By the way, if you watch it on your television, that frees up your laptop to creepily tweet in the twitter verse of Apple enthusiasts.

Expect Apple’s presentation to take approximately 60 minutes. Once the event is over, return to WIRED for coverage that rounds out the announcements and highlights the industry trends that Apple is both responding to and advancing with the latest hardware.
