How to use the Wingman in Apex Legends: tips, damage stats, and DPS

Picking up the Hemlok AR in Apex Legends is always a good choice because the weapon is so consistent at medium to long range. Here we discuss some tips and tricks you can use to dominate other players with the Hemlok.

While you may be tempted to opt for the easy-as-pie R-301, the burst-fire Hemlok can be one of the most deadly weapons in the Apex Games, especially when it falls into the right hands.

If you’re wondering about damage statistics, spray patterns and other things related to the Hemlok, we’ve got you covered. So there’s a lot to walk through, so let’s jump right into the guide and hopefully you’ll have mastered the Hemlok in no time.

Hemlok damage stats in Apex Legends

The left side of the table shows the Hemlock’s burst damage and the right side shows the cannon damage with single fire.

Not every weapon you pick up in Apex Legends has the ability to switch from Burst to Single Shot, although the Hemlok falls into that category. Regular players will already know this, but that is something that affects the damage stats for the weapon. That explains why we have two sets of figures to work with, as shown in the table above – courtesy of the Apex Legends Gamepedia page.

While the damage can be greater on bursts, the accuracy increases a lot with Single Shot. Keep that in mind when jumping into games. However, the Burst has a chance of killing about two to three if you land them in decent parts of the target. With just a few mags, you can wipe out an entire trio if you play your cards right.

Against players without a shield, your opponent can drop down with Burst fire in less than half a second. Equipped with a Level 3 or Level 4 shield, even then they can be down and out in just over a second.

The Hemlok will not bounce around significantly like other weapons, simply by lifting and returning to the same spot in Burst mode.

One thing that puts the Hemlok AR in the higher tier of Apex Legends weapons is its incredible accuracy. If you thought you had to switch to Single Shot in previous seasons, think again. The accuracy of this weapon at short to medium ranges is super impressive.

Things can move quickly with opponents running all around you in Kings Canyon, World’s Edge and Olympus, so having a weapon like the Hemlok that’s easy to control – once you’ve learned the recoil pattern, of course.

The Hemlok blast forces the weapon to move up and down very quickly. The best way to approach it, for accuracy, is to shoot, wait for recoil to return, and spray again. Be efficient with your rounds here and you may have the most deadly weapon to work with.

As you would expect, Single Shot mode will further increase accuracy and recoil will be little or no recoil. The downside here is that the damage per hit is lower, so it’s a trade-off.

Apex Legends Hemlok: ammo and the best attachments

The Hemlok is the ideal weapon for medium-range firefights.

As you may already know, the Hemlok takes heavy ammunition in Apex Legends. If you see a load of it on the ground while looting, make sure to pick up some for the coming battle. You wouldn’t want to run into another team and run out of ammo.

If you can take out opponents in one or two hits, that’s great, although you need to increase the ammo capacity of your rifle.

Without attachments, your Hemlok only has 18 bullets per round, so expect to reload a lot until you find an Extended Mag. If it has a Level 3 Extended Mag, that will put you up to 30 bullets in each magazine. In fact, if you can get your hands on a level 4 gold magazine, you never have to worry about running out of ammo or needing to reload.

With that amount of firepower, you have the potential to take out entire teams of opponents and dominate your matches.

Picking up the right attachments, from floor loot or loot bins, is key to taking the Hemlok to the next level.

Heavy mag or Golden Magazine, as mentioned before, so that goes without saying.

Some optics are preferred by players over others, but in terms of the best you can grab for this weapon, you should look out for the 3x HCOG “Ranger” or 2x-4x Variable AOGThese come in Epic variants (purple).

A legendary Barrel stabilizer must also be the end goal if you really want to get the show on the road.

With this Hop-Up confirmed, you’re looking at a 20% recoil reduction, a 30% reduction in randomness, and also a reduction in visual muzzle flash. All these three components are ideal. However, you don’t have to get the best of the best here to succeed. Even an Epic or Rare would do the trick.
