How to unlock the immortal shores in dead cells

Dead cells has recently become a lot bigger. Of this week Fatal Falls expansion adds a range of weapons and enemies to the game, plus two new biomes. The problem is that access to those two zones – the Fractured Shrines and the Undying Shores – is no easy explanation. Classic Dead cells, Turn right? Here’s how to find them.

Broken shrines

It is easy to access. After you beat the first boss – I tend to take the route that sees me facing the janitor on Black Bridge – you should see an elevator in the next antechamber. Take it to the top. Easy enough.

You won’t … Eh, this joke is an exaggeration.

When you reach the end of the Biome Fractured Shrines, you will come across a door to the Undying Shores. Unless you’ve explored every pixel of the Fractured Shrines, it will be locked, with no explicit directions on how to unlock it.

Note the two statues on each side of the door – especially how they wear hooded robes. You’re looking for a corpse with that outfit. It will be tucked away against a sarcophagus in a dusty corner of the stage’s procedurally generated layout.

Once you find the corpse, use the Homunculus Rune (right thumbstick, at least on Switch) to release your “head” from your body and possess this corpse. From there, just make your way through the rest of the level as normal. (Don’t worry, you’ll keep your equipment.) The statues guarding the door should draw a Gandalf and let you through. You also unlock the blueprint for the Cultist’s Outfit, which, bonus, only takes one cell to unlock.

(There is one potential problem: since you won’t get the Homunculus Rune until you have successfully completed your first run, it’s unclear whether or not players who haven’t already done so will or will not be able to access the Undying Shores. Kotaku contacted developer Motion Twin for clarification.)

You only need to do this once; the door to Undying Shores will remain open during your future runs. There is apparently a boss at the end of the stage, an alternative to the Time Keeper, who shows up in the Clock Room stage. I am pretty rusty Dead cells so for now I have no idea what this new enemy is like or how the hell you defeated him. Good luck!
