If you are thinking of dropping WhatsApp:in front of each reason– one of the bottlenecks can be the difficulty of moving your conversations from WhatsApp to another service. People have built a few smart tools to help you achieve this, but Telegram is now launching an official import tool to make the transition incredibly easy.

Starting, install Telegram on the device with which you mainly use WhatsApp. Set yourself up or log into a Telegram account and then switch back to WhatsApp. You now need to export your WhatsApp conversations –a tedious process for which you have to open them all, then tap the three-dot icon, tap Lakeand tap Export chat.

When asked where to save your chats, make sure to select the Telegram app. When you do, you will be prompted to choose a group to import the conversation into Telegram. You can also create a new group, if you prefer. Then sit back and wait while Telegram processes your WhatsApp chats.

The only quirk of Telegram’s import feature is that it can’t assign your WhatsApp chats to the exact date they happened. Instead, your conversations and media files will all appear in Telegram as if they were on it date you imported them. However, a time stamp the time and date the message or media was originally sent in WhatsApp.

It’s a little awkward solution, but that is the consideration you have to make in exchange for such an easy way to migrate your conversations from WhatsApp to Telegram. Basically Telegram also notes you can also use the same process to move your chats from Line and KakaoTalk. I haven’t heard of either chat services, but if you use them, now you have an easy way to switch if you want.

As part of the update that adds this export / import functionality, Telegram also allows its users to pre-delete secret chats, groups they create and their call history both sides of the conversation. In fact it is this’removability‘that makes Telegram a bit stronger for privacy than WhatsApp as the latter only gives you an hour or so window to delete something you’ve sent to a group or chat (and remove it from the devices).
