HOUSTON – In his first press conference since the first lawsuit was filed against Deshaun Watson, Houston Texans CEO Nick Caserio said the team “respects the legal process” and has no “comment” on the situation.
In the past month, 23 lawsuits have been filed against Watson for inappropriate behavior and sexual assault. One of the lawsuits was “ provisionally ” dismissed by a prosecutor earlier this week, according to court documents.
“I know [Texans CEO] Cal [McNair] and Ownership wrote a letter a few weeks ago that relates only to the organization’s position, relative to where we are, ”Caserio said. So I have nothing to add other than it is legal proceeding. We respect the legal process and where it is. So we are focused on today. We are focused on preparing for the off-season program and preparing the concept, so that’s where our focus is. “
In a letter to Texas season ticket holders on April 5, the McNair family focused on the civil lawsuits and filed a complaint with Houston Police against Watson, saying, “We want to assure you that we take these allegations very seriously.
“Pending the conclusion of this investigation, we are strongly opposed to any form of sexual assault,” the letter read. “Our family and the entire Houston Texans organization have major problems with any kind of abuse and we condemn this type of behavior.”
Caserio was asked about possible contingency plans during the quarterback on Friday, but said he wouldn’t think that far.
“We don’t really go into a lot of hypotheses and a lot of speculation,” Caserio said. “I’m not really good at that. Maybe someone else is better at that than me. If you want to speculate, you should probably buy Bitcoin and focus on that. So we’re going to focus on the things we can control. In a statement last week, NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy called the allegations against Watson “deeply troubling” and noted that “we take these issues very seriously.”
McCarthy said the league launched an investigation last month following initial allegations as part of its personal conduct policy and that the NFL is “continuing to monitor closely all developments in the case.”
