Hot Wheels Unleashed announced has already made me spend money on toys

Recently, I spent at least an hour every day playing Hot Wheels with my four-year-old. It’s one of the games I enjoy playing with him the most, so much so that last week I spent £ 50 and bought more track, a new car launcher and a booster that speeds them up.

So Hot Wheels Unleashed, a new Hot Wheel racing game just announced, has my attention.

None of those are real game images, but it’s actually Trackmania, right? Cars go fast, tracks spin and loop-the-loop, and you can build your own tracks.

Where it might differ the most is that those tracks will zoom through actual locations when selling the toys, so your backdrops will be tables and living room floors. In this respect it is more reminiscent of the old Micro Machines games. Most of them were developed by Codemasters so are now presumably owned by EA.

It is being developed by Milestone Games, the makers of other racing series such as MotoGP and Ride. That gives me some hope that Hot Wheels Unleashed will be better than other licensed games, targeting mobile platforms, or simply poorly rated.

Updating! Make that £ 60 spent on Hot Wheels in the past week. The press release for the game said “Hot Wheels Singles Range” is recognized worldwide as the best-selling toy of 2020. So I went to Amazon and bought it. I need more new cars because a lot of the ones we have are from eBay, a little bit broken, and my kid won’t let me have the good ones when we play. I keep losing our races and I taught him to do a really annoying dance when he wins.

Now I will get revenge. Hot Wheels Unleashed is due out September 30th.
