More than 15,000 people received the vaccine Saturday.

Daily COVID-19 infections and deaths decreased on Saturday, as did hospital admissions, although the number of people in intensive care with the disease increased slightly.

27,542 of the vaccinees received both doses. Although Utah’s first vaccination response targeted health professionals and the elderly, 70 nursing homes and assisted living centers remain active outbreaks with infected residents, according to data from the Utah Department of Health. Nineteen of those outbreaks have more than 20 residents with COVID-19.
Cases reported in the past day • 1,771, which is 878 less than Friday.
Deaths reported in the past day • 11, although the Utah Department of Health reported that two of the deaths occurred before December 31, 2020.
Four of the dead were Salt Lake County residents: two men over the age of 85, a woman aged 65-84, and a man aged 45-64.
Davis County saw two deaths, both men, one between 45-64 and one between 65-84.
Utah County also had two deaths, a man and a woman over 85.
Duchesne County had one death, a woman aged 45-64, as well as Sanpete County, a man aged 65-84, and Washington County, a man aged 65-84.
Hospital admissions reported in the past day • 481. That is seven less than Friday. Of those currently in hospital, 196 are in intensive care – four more than on Friday.
Tests reported in the past day • 10.001.
Percentage of positive tests • 17.7%. This is lower than the seven-day average of 18.9%.
Totals so far • 334,889 cases; 1,582 dead; 12,948 hospital admissions; 1,958,154 tests.
