Colon, Honduras
Honduran security forces on Saturday located some 40,000 illegal coca leaf plantations, a laboratory allegedly dedicated to processing these types of drugs.
Honduras Armed Forces spokesman José Coello told reporters that the clandestine laboratory was located during an operation in a mountainous area of the Limón Municipality, Colón Department, in the Caribbean.
He added that “drug lab” was discovered during an operation by the armed forces, the national police, the military police of public order and the prosecutor’s office against organized crime.
The 40,000 coca leaf plantations, which will be destroyed in the coming hours, were also located in Limón, where Honduran authorities are monitoring people allegedly involved in planting this type of drug in the country, the armed agency spokesman said.
The plantations “had already had a deliberate time of development,” said Coello, who indicated that the Public Prosecution Service Against Organized Crime, the National Inter-Institutional Security Force (Fusina), the Xatruch Force and the Public Prosecution Service are also participating in the operation.
