Honduras: 879 kilos of coca seized by boat and truck

The 879 kilos of cocaine seized is the result of operations by the Technical Criminal Investigation Agency (Atic) and the Honduran Naval Force.

The detainees were identified by the names of Jesus Ramón Montaño Carreño, Francisco Javier Romero, Jairo Ismael Barreto Rosas, Julio Rafael Ramos Miranda and Júnior David Boada Farfán, who will be charged with the crime of heavy drug trafficking.

Yuri Mora, spokesman for the Public Prosecution Service, reported that Atic received information from other authorities and was able to intercept the boat on the high seas.

Anti-drug officials said the shipment came from Venezuela and would be delivered to the Bay Islands to a group of Honduran drug traffickers who would take it to the shores of Mexico.

Apparently the group of drug traffickers was going to transfer the 26 bales of cocaine on the high seas, but they were intercepted by Navy soldier.

The boat was intercepted on Saturday and yesterday morning Atic officers inspected and transferred the bales to Tegucigalpa, where 819 kilos of cocaine was counted.

The packages were marked with the image of a red horse and R 35, that identifies the labs where they were made.

Another Atic team needed a truck with HAB 5259 plates yesterday morning, which was inspected by the prosecution in the La Puerta neighborhood in San Pedro Sula. After suspecting that he was carrying drugs, the officers disarmed the part of the pan and found a hidden compartment containing the 60 kilograms of cocaine. Each kilo was wrapped in red plastic and marked with the numbers 888.

The truck that loaded the 60 kilos of the drug came from Tocoa, Colón, and it was destined for Copán, where it was to be handed over to a group of drug traffickers whose goal was to cross the border into Guatemala and then into the United States.
