Kyle Shanahan and the San Francisco 49ers are unlikely to have moved up to third in the 2021 NFL Draft to select Trey Lance or Justin Fields if past behavior predicts future behavior, as social psychology research suggests.
Shanahans were wary of mobile quarterbacks
Kyle Shanahan was the offensive coordinator when the Washington Redskins fielded Robert Griffin III with the second overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft and Kirk Cousins asked in the fourth round of the same draft, leaving many to scrape why the team was quarterback so soon after drafting what many thought was the franchise quarterback in RGIII.
It was later revealed that Mike Shanahan disliked and was willing to quit because of Dan Snyder’s preferential treatment of RGIII and lukewarm support for Kirk Cousins, and Mike Shanahan explicitly expressed concern about possible injury to the running quarterback RGIII while giving Kirk Cousins a bargain that he could not pass up. In his senior season, RGIII rushed for 699 yards and 10 hasty touchdowns.
Kyle Shanahan was the head coach when the San Francisco 49ers passed Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson to select Solomon Thomas and later a third-round quarterback. In his junior season with Texas Tech, Mahomes had 285 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns; Deshaun Watson had 629 yards rushing and 9 rushing touchdowns in his final season with Clemson.
Shanahans have been looking for quarterbacks who don’t run
Kirk Cousins rushed to -39 yards and zero touchdowns are senior season and CJ Beathard rushed to -13 yards and two touchdowns are senior season. The year before he was traded to the 49ers, Jimmy Garoppolo had 6 yards rushing and zero touchdowns and history has shown Kyle Shanahan picking quarterbacks with nonexistent running matches.
Justin Fields and Trey Lance have running games
Justin Fields rushed for 484 yards and 10 rushing touchdowns his second season and 383 yards and 5 rushing touchdowns in 6 fewer games his junior season. Trey Lance sped to 1,100 yards and 14 hasty touchdowns in his sophomore season.
Will history repeat itself?
It’s a foregone conclusion that San Francisco has moved up to three to take a quarterback and if this turns out to be the case, Kyle Shanahan will again go for a quarterback who has no running game and is a more traditional pocket passer in the game. mold by Kirk Cousins or CJ Beathard?
Niners go to 3 = QB

Some, including Shanahan’s friend Chris Simms, have cited Mac Jones as a possibility for the Niners. Mac Jones had a hasty touchdown 14 yards his junior season.
49ers-Dolphins … Kyle Shanahan tries to control his own destiny. You trade up to 3 for a QB that is currently NFL ready, not a project. And to me that says Mac Jones.

I would repeat @RTLNews and @MikeSilver that Mac Jones, like Trey Lance, is fit for Kyle Shanahan’s offense. The question with Jones concerns the benefit / value of going up.

History does not have to repeat itself
They say doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity and that people are allowed to change their minds, but does Shanahan have the flexibility and strength to break the mold and turn to pick a mobile quarterback for the first time? Some think so.
Mac Jones wouldn’t be a shock. My thought, however, is that they want to have more playing skills from the legs of their next QB. https://t.co/7l4XvCmF4B

Niners fans thirsty for a dynamic playmaker at quarterback pray that history won’t repeat itself and that the idea that the Shanahan won’t take Trey Lance or Justin Fields is an icy look, one that won’t age well.
Because if the San Francisco 49ers add a mobile quarterback with Trey Lance or Justin Fields’ arm, the rest of the NFL could be in trouble.

By David Bonilla

Today’s trades have made analysts go out of their way to update their mock drafts. The San Francisco 49ers are suddenly able to select one of the best quarterback prospects. Trevor Lawrence will almost certainly become No. 1 overall in the Jacksonville Jaguars. The New York Jets are expected to select Zach Wilson with the # 2 overall pick. NFL Media analyst Chad Reuter has released an updated mock draft, and Lawrence and Wilson have moved past the 49ers spot at number 3. Still, it leaves San Francisco with several options, and Reuter lets the team go with former North Dakota state quarterback Trey Lance. “The 49ers have closed an important transaction with the

Everyone discusses Friday’s massive trade between the San Francisco 49ers and Miami Dolphins, with the first of the No. 12 overall pick moved to No. 3 while surrendering future first rounders. That puts the team in a great place to select one of the top quarterback prospects in next month’s draft. It won’t be Trevor Lawrence or Clemson, who are expected to be chosen as No. 1 by the Jacksonville Jaguars. BYU’s Zach Wilson could head to the New York Jets at No. 2. Assuming it goes like this, NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah had some thoughts on what general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan could do at No. 3. “That’s what we expect, and that’s
