How I met your mother ran on CBS from 2005 to 2014.
Well, the franchise is coming back – and if that’s upsetting to you, get this: Hilary Duff is on board too.

The new show is called – wait for it – How I met your father, and it’s coming to Hulu with Duff as the protagonist. Exciting!
According to Variety, the show will revolve around “Sophie (Duff) tells her son the story of how she met his father: a story that catapults us back to the year 2021 where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the middle of figuring out who they are. what they want out of life and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options. “
Variety also reports that it’s unclear at this point how – and if – the new show will tie into the universe of the original.
You may not know this, but kind of a sequel to How I met your mother has been in the works for a while. Greta Gerwig shot a pilot How I met your father in 2014 that was ultimately not picked up for series.
That pilot was a lock, but the test audience didn’t like Greta Gerwig as the protagonist (!!!). I asked her about that experience in 2015 when “Mistress America” came out. https://t.co/gORZ5VY2ZQ

The announcement is also perfect timing for Duff, since the last season of Younger just started earlier this month.

Regardless, there is no set release date for it How I met your father just a little while longer, so we’ll have to see how it turns out.
