Here’s your Windows 10 installation checklist

When you’ve finally upgraded your PC’s software or gotten a new machine out of the box and getting started with Windows 10 for the first time, there are a few things you should know.

First, go to your settings and sign in with your Microsoft account to both sync your previous settings from previous Windows versions and make sure the settings you adjust in the future are also synced. If you’ve never created a Microsoft account before, we recommend that you do so now. Then go ahead and install the updates that are available. There may be more than a few, so it’s best to get over with it now.

You can also participate in the Windows Insider Program from Settings. This is nice if you want to get a taste of the beta features Microsoft is testing, but if you don’t like living on the edge, you can skip this.

Now is the time to personalize your operating system with a few simple tweaks. First go to Screen and switch on Night light mode so that the color temperature of your screen is adjusted at dusk and dawn. Then go to Notifications and warnings to disable annoying Microsoft tips to get the most out of Windows or whatever. jump to Storage and switch on Storage sense to keep your system clean. After installing your essential apps, click Taskbar settings and select “Select which icons appear in the taskbar” to keep everything looking neat. below Apps, select Boot up to choose which apps start automatically when you start your computer (keep this to a minimum for obvious reasons).
