Saturday’s COVID update from the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) includes 2,063 new cases and 11 new deaths.
It’s the third day in a row that Minnesota has reported more than 2,000 cases, as the state is still experiencing a new resurgence of the virus despite growing vaccination numbers.
The 11 new deaths increase the state’s death toll to 6,875 over the course of the pandemic. Of the total deaths, 62.4% (4,286) were long-term care residents, including four of the last 11 deaths.
Through April 1, the state reported that 1,770,290 people received at least 1 dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 1,129,863 people completed their vaccine series.
Forty percent of minnesotans ages 16 and older received at least one injection.

Test and positivity rates
The 2,063 positive results in Saturday’s update came from 35,558 completed tests, creating a daily test positivity of 5.8%.
According to Johns Hopkins University, Minnesota’s positivity rate in the past seven days is 6.75%.
The World Health Organization recommends that a positive rate (total number of positives divided by total tests completed) of less than 5% for at least two weeks is required to safely reopen the economy. That 5% threshold is based on the total number of positives divided by the total number of tests.
