BacklogBacklogIt’s time. Let’s dig out those games we always told ourselves we were going to play and give them a try.

In that dark, dark time before I fell in love The Witcher 3, I’ve asked all of you help me finish itYou gave me great advice that changed my game life. Today I am here to ask for your helpe again, with Hollow Knight

Everyone likes Hollow KnightI want to love Hollow Knight to! I recently started playing the game again (editor’s note: dear god “recently” was January what time)lured by its beautiful art and intriguing mysteries, thrilled to curl up on my couch with my Switch and explore a new world. What I’ve seen of it so far is so beautiful and interesting! But the game is so hardIt took me ages to beat the first boss fight against Hornet, and I’m sure it just gets harder from there.

Kotaku‘s tips, although helpful, has not been enough to get me over my particular hurdle. The problem is, I don’t really do that like boss fights. I tend to get frustrated and drop a game with them for the night, and then I have a hard time getting myself back to the game because I know there’s a boss fight awaiting me. I know a lot of people who like boss fights, and I am not against them on any moral basis. But ohNow that I solve the puzzle to beat a boss, I hate to do it for real, and get excited determination of “one more try!” quickly gives way to annoyance. I find this particularly difficult in Hollow Knightwhere I can lose all my collected Geo currency if I furiously quit without retrieving it. Believe me, I wish I wasn’t, but you gotta play the hand ‘treated again.

I am currently somewhere in the Fungal Wastes where – if I remember correctly – I fell through some tricky areas due to my bad platforming skills and the shaky Joy-Con I refuse to replace. (Or one of the problems, actually is my Joy-Con or if I just blame it on my video game failure is one of the persistent questions of my quarantine games.) I suspect there’s a boss lurking nearby who I’m sure will destroy me, but I have yet to build the strength to start up and control the game.

I wonder a lot if maybe Hollow Knight just isn’t for me, especially considering my dislike for boss games. B.But then I see someone talking about it and I get sucked all the way back in. Many of you no doubt know the secret to falling in love Hollow KnightThanks in advance for braving the comment section to share that love with me.
