Breath of the wilderness mud Waikuteru is doing well. Last week they have saved the glorified storage unit that is Link’s home. Now they have full control of the gigantic house in which Link’s house is located, by which I mean Hyrule.

In a new video, Waikuteru shows how they can edit through a breakthrough in modding Breath of the wildernessit’s overworld, which means it is now possible to recreate others Zelda games inside BOTW‘s extensive limits. Waikuteru has demonstrated this by a lot Skyward Sword—Skyloft City – in-game, including floating waterfalls and an extremely specific color palette.

In the video, Waikuteru explained how they achieved this.

“There are four accessible worlds in it Breath of the wilderness: The normal overworld that you can see in the background, the world you are drawn to when you enter a sanctuary, MainFieldDungeon (you play in this world when you try to complete a Divine Beast or the final trial), [and] AocField (This is a new world added with The Master Trials DLC, more commonly known as Trial of the Sword). The MainField … is divided into 80 map sections. “

AocField is divided the same way, but uses only 5 of the 80 sections of the map. “The remaining 75 map sections are free to us,” said Waikuteru. They put Skyloft in section 75 of the map and jumped off it and ran to other empty and occupied sections. While they did that, the game’s lighting and music quickly changed depending on where Link should be.

What this means in theory (and seemingly in practice) is the possibilities for Breath of the wilderness modding is much bigger now than before. The sky – or at least Skyward Sword– is the limit.
