A healthy high school student from Chicago got COVID-19 just before Christmas – and was dead within days when the virus “ passed through, ” her family says.
She called me up crying to say, ‘Mom, I’m going to miss Christmas’. And I had to reassure her that it’s only one day on the calendar, and when she comes home, “We’re doing Christmas with you.” … Unfortunately not [leave the hospital]Sarah Simental’s grieving mother, Deborah Simental, told the local ABC-TV affiliate.
“It literally just kept eating her,” the mother said of the corona virus. “And no parent should ever see their child go through that.”
Deborah said her 18-year-old daughter had no health problems when she developed a headache and sore throat and body aches on December 23.
Sarah felt so bad that her parents took her to a local hospital – where she only deteriorated and was flown to the University of Chicago Hospital, ABC said.
The teenager never recovered and died the day after Christmas.
‘I have no words for it. I just can’t believe how fast it progressed, ”Sarah’s dad, Don Simental, told the outlet.
Deborah said the only comfort for her and her husband was to be able to be by their daughter’s bedside when she died.
‘She said,’ It’s going to be fine, Mom. “And that was the last,” the mother recalled. So I know she knows it will all work out in the end. We’re going to miss her, but we’ll be fine. “
Still, “I think I’m going to miss some real milestones that every mother wants to have with her daughter,” said the mother.
