The two murders were committed the previous Sunday, at dusk, at the intersection of 11 Avenida Sur and Primera Calle Poniente in San Salvador, when the victims were driving aboard a truck with members of the FMLN group after a meeting.
The government has tried to prove it was all gunfire between the FMLN militants and three health ministry employees. But the prosecution has determined that it was an attack on the militants and there is no evidence of any shooting.
Peña Alvarado was joined by Roberto Carlos Coto de Paz and Héctor de Jesús Castaneda, who are also charged and will undergo the first hearing tomorrow.
Videos captured by corporate cameras near where the two murders were committed show that the three defendants intercepted and shot their victims.
