Jana Kramer has filed for divorce from Mike Caussin.
On Wednesday, the 37-year-old country singer and actress announced in an emotional post on social media that she is breaking up from Caussin, 34, after six years of marriage.
“‘It’s time.’ As I try to understand a reality that I never wanted to believe would be possible again, those words have now become reality, “she wrote on Instagram.” I fought with you. I loved hard. I have forgiven. I put the work in. I gave everything I have, and now I have nothing left to give. “
Please know that I still believe wholeheartedly in marriage, love, and reconstruction. I just can no longer fight. It’s time to heal, ”she continued. “Thank you for all the love, heart and support, in many ways you fought with me on this journey, and for that I am grateful. A source tells PEOPLE that the divorce is due to infidelity, which the couple divorced earlier in 2016.
“He cheated and broke her trust again,” the source said. “After fighting for marriage for so long, she has come to realize that his patterns will never change.”
“The focus is now on their kids,” they add, referring to the couple’s kids Jolie Rae, 5, and Jace Joseph, 2.
News of the split comes seven months after the couple released their book The good fight: Wanting to leave, choosing to stay, and the powerful exercise of loving faithfully about strengthening their marriage after the former soccer player sought treatment for sex addiction.

“I’ve only dated a few women in my life,” the former NFL player wrote in it. “Most of my relationships can be described more as ‘talking to,’ which essentially means we slept together, but I’ve never committed enough to get my feelings involved. And when I committed, I inevitably cheated. couldn’t be alone. “
“Now I loved Jana’s husband and still love to be Jana’s husband, but early on in the relationship I had no idea who I was,” he added later.
Kramer has been open about Caussin’s many cases in the past, particularly the one in 2016, the same year the two broke up. (They renewed their wedding vows in December 2017.)

“The pain consumed all my thoughts and hurt me more physically than I thought I could handle,” she wrote in an essay. Good morning America. “When I think back to it, it seems like a terrible nightmare that I wouldn’t wish on anyone.”
And while Caussin’s decisions were hard to swallow, she wrote at the time that she “grew in therapy” and “grew as a partner” because of the work he “did for himself.”
About that time in 2016 – when she was at work Dancing with the stars and he received treatment for sex addiction – the couple revealed that Caussin actually filed for divorce and the two weeks broke up. (They read passages from their book to them Whining down podcast.)
“Mike was in rehab and I was in all-out war with my emotions. Most days I pushed Mike out of my head and tried to live in the world as if he didn’t exist,” she read. At the end of March, Kramer shared a selfie of herself crying after an argument between her and her husband.
“Nothing is perfect,” Kramer wrote at the time. “I took this picture to almost remind myself that while it seems like everything is doomed right now, it isn’t.”
“No relationship is perfect and when blasts or fights happen we sometimes think it’s over, but it’s really a time for growth and more understanding and leaning against your partner,” she added.
