HBO Max announces new adult animation shows, including a Velma Dinkley Origin story

HBO Max has announced series orders for three new adult animation shows, including a Scooby-Doo spin-off that will tell the original story of Velma Dinkley, and a revival of Clone High. The original and comic series, aptly titled Velma, will debunk the complex. and colorful past of the underrated brain of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. gang, Velma Dinkley, voiced by executive producer Mindy Kaling (The Office). Charlie Grandy, Howard Klein and Sam Register will also act as executive producers on the 10-episode series, which will be produced by Warner Bros. Animation.

In addition to Velma, HBO Max ordered two seasons of Clone High, a new version of the 2002 series Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Bill Lawrence set in a high school for clones of historical figures. In addition to writing the series, Lord and Miller will again team up with Lawrence to serve as executive producers on the MTV revival, with Erica Rivinoja as showrunner.The streaming company further fleshed out its adult entertainment program with Nate Sherman and Nick Vokey’s Fired on Mars, an existential workplace comedy set on the Martian campus of a modern technology company; SNL’s Pete Davidson will lend his voice to one of the characters. HBO Max also revamped JG Quintel’s adult animated comedy Close Enough for two more seasons.

These new projects join an already packed string of upcoming adult animated shows, including Harley Quinn, The Prince, Santa Inc., 10 Year Old Tom and The Boondocks previously announced by the network, as well as an all-new roster from HBO. Max animated originals for adults including Hello Paul, Obi, Uncanny Valley and Cover, all of which are currently in development.
